Political Frustration With Banking System

There were queries over the benefits of private finance initiatives (PFIs) in Enniskillen and the panel showed their frustration and doubt at the validity of such schemes. Stephen Farry spoke of how the banks aren’t living up to their obligations of engaging with businesses and lending money, despite the Northern Ireland taxpayer contributing £1 billion to the bail out of banks.

Tom Elliott also expressed cynicism about PFIs and called on local government to do more: “I think there needs to be an entire rethink of PFIs within the Assembly.”

Do you share Stephen Farry’s dismay at how the banks are operating at the minute?
